Semester 1, Final Meet!

A little while ago, the club had it's final semester 1 meet! A joint meet with the University of Adelaide Anime Club. A few members came dressed up, so hopefully, we can do it again with MORE enthusiasm from the members! More dressing up!

We welcomed a few new members and some regular members too! Lots of food and fun! Let's do it again sometime!!

The new Japanese members: Sakura, Chihiro, Yuri and Haruna. (Sakura-san, Chihiro-san, please don't fall off the picture! :D)

Here is Yuri, Haruna, Nik and Jee!

It also appeared that some of our members were having trouble creating a "heart" shape with their fingers!

David wearing an open yukata, Lucy wearing a Skip Beat cosplay, Kairii (myself) wearing lolita style and Naoto. If you look closely, David appears to be creating a peanut shape with his fingers!

David tries again! And he gets it! A "heart" shape!

皆さん, let's have more fun this year!!

Regular Meets Week 6

Look what mischief we have been up to!
In an attempt to draw people to our meets and
learn a litte about the Japanese traditional wear,
we brought in some personal yukatas for our members to try on.
It was a success! With so much practice tying obis we sure
will be ready for Kodomo No Hi next month!
Remember it's on the 1st of May at Cowandilla Primary School,
more details to come, so keep an eye out~

We even managed to get some males involved!
Maybe it's time to invest in some male yukatas for
the club too, don't you think?

perhaps the highlight of the night was dressing some
lovely boys into our yukatas!thanks for volunteering,
we had fun, right?

Recent Events

We've had two encounters with Japanese culture last week, and though I don't have the photos to show it, some of them should turn up on Facebook sooner or later. Keep your eyes out!

Meeting a Japanese Traveller
A lucky few of us met Kaz, a 23 year old Japanese traveller visiting Adelaide for a couple of days. With the downpour of rain, we forfeited plans of heading down the Glenelg and instead gave a quick tour of the University to a very curious and eager tourist with impeccable English. After being whipped visciously by the wind and dampened by the rain, we found refuge at Chocolate Bean where we were able to find out more about our new friend who even helped some of the Japanese language students studying at Adelaide. When it was almost time for his flight, we quickly stopped by the famous clock tower of the General Post Office (which features in Kiki's Delivery Service) before bidding farewell. A quick but very valuable experience~

Karaoke with a Cause
An untimely clash with the Engineering Pub Crawl but nevertheless a good turn-out for the first event of the year. A night of horrible screaming and loud tambourines (mostly on my behalf) was had. We had hoped for more participants but understandably the club members are shy and would rather not flaunt a non-talent unlike me!). We even met BlueBear, the mascot for the Korean gift shop on Hindley Street, perhaps the highlight of the night. Donations were collected, thankyou to those who contributed! If you still want to donate to the Japanese tsunami and earthquake appeal, please come the the next meeting~

2011 Welcome!

Welcome to the club blog for Adelaide University's Japanese Culture Club. Or JCC for short.

We're a smallish club with an interest in Japanese culture and language, based, as you can probably already tell, in Adelaide, Australia.

We hold regular monthly meetings as well as monthly events of interest, which you'll see reports and pictures of here.

I am Lindzi, who is meant to be generally in charge of maintaining this blog- however I'll also be assisted by other club members including but not limited to Maddy, Kairii and Angela.

Also in about two weeks I'll (probably) become the clubs international representative for a short term, so I'll also be posting updates about that as per the clubs request. So do look out for that.

As for upcoming events, the Club will be holding it's opening Karaoke Event, where we will also sing our hearts out for Japan and work at fund raising which will go towards aid relief for the areas worst affected by the recent earthquake and tsunami. Club members, please support us!

Thanks for your time! And look out for more updates soon!
